Canaan Dog

KC Pedigree, Medium-Large

Fluff monster

Not good for first time owners

The National Dog of Israel, the Canaan has developed from the Pariah Dog of the Middle East, only becoming standardised as a breed type since 1935.

Attractive to ...

An enthusiastic, active home that can use the dog's brains to the full. In its homeland, it's been used by the military to detect landmines, so a quick walk around the park won't really cut it.

Not the best for ...

People who like to wear black. The Canaan's coat is short but the undercoat is very dense and when it sheds, you'll get through many a lint roller!

Cross between

Big, but will still fit in a small car.

Exercise Needs

Medium (About an hour)
Doesn't have to be a solid hour, you can give them lots of short walks.

Dogs that you mainly just need to polish! But be warned - short haired dogs moult all the time!

Fluff monster
Buy shares in Dyson - tell people you are wearing mohair if embarrassed
