Caucasian Shepherd Dog

Non-KC Pedigree, Giant

Fluff monster

Not good for first time owners

This flock guard would protect its wards against wolves, coyotes and other dangers. The breed covered such a huge range across Caucasia that regional variations were inevitable, with two particular types emerging: the bulkier, heavier-coated mountain dog, and the lighter, shorter-coated steppe type.

Attractive to ...

Someone with a local wolf problem.

Not the best for ...

Most people! This dog needs skilled training and management – and a huge area to patrol. Unless you have your own vast mountain range and years of flock-guard experience, you're better off picking another breed.

Double trouble!
There she blows. Dense undercoat that could stuff a mattress when you start combing it out.
