Chinese Crested

KC Pedigree, Small

Doesn't moult much

Good for first time owners

Developed from the Mexican Hairless Dog, a larger Chinese Crested was used in the Han Dynasty for hunting before being miniaturised. This breed has two distinct types: the Hairless (which has a hairy crest, socks and tail tip), and the Powder Puff (which has a long coat all over).

Attractive to ...

Keen knitters! The Hairless needs to wear jumpers in colder weather, so get your needles out. In warm weather, suncream and sun avoidance will protect the exposed skin.

Not the best for ...

Not many people – these are elegant, fun, loving, intelligent dogs that are happy with as little or as much exercise as you can give, can take part in many dog sports, can live in the city or countryside, are a convenient size for all cars and homes, and come in two coat types. That ticks a lot of boxes!
