Dachshund (Wire Haired)

Small Size

Moderate shedding

Good for first time owners

The Wire Dachshund is terrier-like in coat and in character.

FACT SHEET

Attractive to ...

Someone that likes the feisty, tenacious terrier spirit - in an impossibly cute-looking and devoted companion.

Not the best for ...

Someone that wants feline company. The Wire can be socialised to accept a cat, with careful training, but the instinct to hunt small furries is stronger in the Wire than perhaps in the other Dachshund coat types. To make life easier, maybe opt for a Long coat instead – and ideally from a breeder that has cats.
