Finnish Lapphund

KC Pedigree, Medium

Fluff monster

Not good for first time owners

Accompanying nomadic Laplanders, this dog would hunt and herd reindeer and act as a watchdog. In recent years, they have become much-loved pets and have been successful in many dog sports. But they could still bring back a deer if given the chance.

Attractive to ...

Father Christmas. What other breed is so at home in the Lapland snow and can keep the reindeer in order?

Not the best for ...

Those who like a bit of peace and quiet. Finnish Lapphunds are lovely dogs, but they do have the spitz tendency to bark at anything unusual. Or anything.

Cross between

A bit smaller than a Labrador.

Exercise Needs

Medium (About an hour)
Doesn't have to be a solid hour, you can give them lots of short walks.

Double trouble!
There she blows. Dense undercoat that could stuff a mattress when you start combing it out.
