Great Dane

KC Pedigree, Giant

Moderate shedding

Not good for first time owners

These are definitely not Danish - but German! Originally bred to guard country estates and hunt wild boar, these dogs still enjoy patrolling their gardens but it is on the sofa that they now do their most important work!

Attractive to ...

Those who don't like to draw attention to themselves. These dogs turn heads wherever they go!

Not the best for ...

The weak. They might be gentle giants but they are big and strong. If a Dane decides to chase a squirrel or quarrel with a dog it doesn't like the look of, you have to be strong enough to keep control.

German Mastiff, Dane

Cross between

So big people will stop and take photos.

Exercise Needs

High (Two hours or more)
Without sufficient mental and physical exercise will probably do the wall of death around the living room!

Dogs that you mainly just need to polish! But be warned - short haired dogs moult all the time!

Moderate shedding
All canines drop some hair, think of it as dog glitter!
