This very smart, dapper dog takes its name after Count Hamilton, the founder of the breed and of the Swedish Kennel Club. They were developed to hunt hare and fox, singly or in pairs, in the forested, mountainous regions of Sweden in even the harshest of climates.
An active, training-minded home. Hamiltons have a high prey drive and hunt by sight as well as scent, so enjoy lure coursing as well as scent trailing.
Someone with high fences and access to a safe, enclosed area where the dog can exercise off-lead. Elsewhere, the Hamilton's strong prey drive and hound-like selective deafness means exercise must be done on a long line.
Hamilton, Hamilton Hound, Swedish Foxhound
Big, but will still fit in a small car.
High (Two hours or more)
Without sufficient mental and physical exercise will probably do the wall of death around the living room!
Dogs that you mainly just need to polish! But be warned - short haired dogs moult all the time!
All canines drop some hair, think of it as dog glitter!
