This pointing breed's unusual name comes from its Dutch founder Edward Korthals. His aim was to create a versatile gundog with extreme resilience, vigor and devotion to his master.


Attractive to ...

Fans of lions. The term 'Griffon' is commonly used to describe a lion-like appearance of dogs that have moustaches eyebrows and beards.

Not the best for ...

Stay-at-home types. The Korthals Griffon is primarily a hunting dog used for upland game birds and waterfowl.

Exercise Needs

High (Two hours or more)
Without sufficient mental and physical exercise will probably do the wall of death around the living room!


If not hand stripped will go fluffy. If you don't pluck their fur in the old fashioned way they transform from spikey to soft.

But all dogs shed dander so if you're allergic, make sure you'll be ok

Match with a breeder

Upon completing your introduction call a breeder will review your application. If successful you’ll be able to arrange a meeting and be accepted onto their waiting list. A Tailwise fee of £95 (excl. VAT) will be due at the point you pay a deposit.
