KC Pedigree, Tiny-Small

Doesn't moult much

Good for first time owners

Papillon is French for 'butterfly' and from the ears on this little dog, it's easy to see why the name was chosen.

Attractive to ...

Elegant owners with royal aspirations. The Papillon was a favourite of Madame de Pompadour and Queen Marie Antoinette.

Not the best for ...

Anyone looking for a tough, hardy companion. The Papillon is rather delicate so care should be taken if playing with bigger dogs.

Cross between

Similar size and weight to your average cat.

Exercise Needs

Low (Under 30 minutes)
A walk and a good sniff can be like reading a novel while doing a marathon for a little dog.

Long almost human hair
Luscious long outer locks that need lots of attention and a soft undercoat that will get knotty if not combed out.

Doesn't moult much
But all dogs shed dander so if you're allergic, make sure you'll be ok

Irene's Butterfly dogs

My son and I have been showing Papillons for thirty years since Glenn was the age of seven. We have enjoyed many show successes during this time. We currently hold the Breed Recorder Challenge Certificate Holder titles for Dog Papillon, Bitch Papillon and the Phalene. Over this period we have made up numerous Kennel Club Champions winning many Top Puppy Awards, Top Dog Awards, Best In Shows at All Breed Championship Shows and BIS's at Papillon Specialist Breed Shows. We are very proud that one of our dogs took the accolade of achieving UK Top Dog All Breeds. We have been Kennel Club Assured Breeders for a number of years and hold all the accolades including the Award of Excellence. The only Papillon Breeders to do so. Our dogs are looked after in the best possible way always enjoying life to the full. We both live in Shropshire.
